Nehru Zoological Park :: Hyderabad



    The Nehru Zoological Park, also known as Hyderabad Zoo is one of the largest zoos in India.   Spread in an area of 380 Acres,  the zoo was established in the city of Hyderabad in 1963, and named after the First Prime Minister of the Country,  Jawaharlal Nehru.  Located next to a Picturesque Lake, the zoo provides abundant opportunity for capturing the beautiful flora and fauna on camera.   It houses over 250 Species of Animals, Birds and most of which are kept in conditions as close to their natural habitats as possible.  This is the First Zoo to create moated enclosures for Animals.  The Zoo is the First of its kind in the Country where open motored enclosure concepts have been introduced for the display of the Animals.  The park houses a varied collection of Animals.  There are about 132 Species of Animals (1250 Animals).  Most of them are Mammals.  There are also a variety of Birds (100 Species of Birds ) and reptiles also on display.  The Indian Rhino,  Asiatic Lion , Tiger, Panther, Gaur, Orangutan, Crocodile, Python, as well as Deer, Kangaroos, Antelopes and many more Animals are housed here.  This exhibit also includes Fruit Bats, Slender Loris, Slow Loris, Civets, Leopard Cats, Hedgehogs, Barn Owls, Mottled Wood Owls, Fishing Owls and great horned Owls.  The Lion Safari Park , elephant Ride , Natural History Museum and Children’s train are the added attractions of the zoo.   Mir Alam Tank is a large lake adjacent to Nehru Zoological Park.  AP Tourism operates Boats on the lake,  for which one has to enter through the Zoo. 

The Zoo is open:   Tuesday to Sunday except Monday.
